The program sequence for machining a conical thread are as follows: 1. Specify the spindle speed and feed rate. Spindle speed and feed rate parameters’must be specified in terms of both the radial component and the axial component of motion. The radial component specifies the rate at which the cutting tool is introduced into the workpiece, while the axial component specifies the rate at which the tool is removed. As a general rule, the spindle speed should be increased along with the feed rate as the diameter decreases. 2. Displace the tool in the axial direction. The tool should be moved along the z-axis of the coordinate system to the point at which the conical thread is to be machined. This downward motion should occur gradually until the predetermined pitch is reached. 3. Orient the cutting tool. The tool must be oriented to the proper tool angle in order to ensure that the helix angle of the thread is correct. The tool must be tilted away from the workpiece to accommodate the proper thread helix angle. 4. Displace the cutting tool radially and axially.
