To tackle this issue, China has been exploring ways, like the go-west strategy and regional integrated development, to create a balanced development in the whole country and to stretch the gap between the regions.

The “go-west” strategy is aimed at strengthening the development and overall revitalization of the western region by solving the institutional, resource, and environment problems. On the basis of this, the idea of regional integrated development is put forward and implemented, which uses the whole region as the unit, and realizes the coordination of different regional urban and rural areas, industry, and population.

The “go-west” strategy and regional integrated development have played a positive role in promoting the balanced development, but more needs to be done. It requires effective financial support, the establishment of an efficient and effective management system, the improvement of public services and infrastructure, the rational allocation of resources, human capital investment, and stronger support for basic and key industries.
