Common Identification Methods for Bearings

Bearings are important parts of mechanical transmission. Therefore, it is important to properly identify the bearing used in the equipment. The correct identification method needs to be selected according to the bearing condition. The following are some common identification methods for bearings.

Visual Identification:

Visual identification is one of the most commonly used bearing identification methods, which can be divided into four aspects:

(1) Observe the bearing itself to judge the brand and model;

(2) Through the sample, it is judged that the bearing in the hand belongs to domestic or imported bearing;

(3) Through the sample, it is judged that the bearing’s precision grade is P0 or P6;

(4) Through the sample, it is judged that the bearing is zinc-coated or chrome-coated according to the colour.

Bearing Specification Matching Identification:

In order to clarify the bearing model in the hand, you need to find the bearing specification table in order to match the model. Generally speaking, there are five technical indexes for a bearing, which are bearing type, bearing model, bearing size, bearing specification, and bearing number. According to these five technical indexes, we can match the bearing model.

Bearing Number Identification:

The best way to identify a bearing is to check the bearing number. Although there are some differences between the bearing numbers of domestic bearings and imported bearings, they all indicate the brand, type, size, and inner and outer diameter of the bearing.

Although the bearing number is the most direct method for identification, it is not an easy task. Different suppliers and different countries have different bearing numbering rules. Therefore, there are sometimes differences in similar bearing numbers.

Bearing raceway method:

The raceway of the bearing can also be used to identify the bearing. The bearing raceway is divided into inner, outer, and raceway. According to the bearing raceway angle, it can be divided into two categories: one is the deep groove ball bearing with the raceway angle of 6° and the other is the angular contact ball bearing with the raceway angle of 15°. The two kinds of bearings have obvious distinctions in the raceway. The raceway of the deep groove ball bearing is straight and the raceway of the angular contact ball bearing is inclined.

Comparison Method: The comparison method is to compare the hand held bearing with the users original bearing in appearance. This method is simple and crude, but sometimes it can identify the bearing accurately, especially when the user has an original bearing and knows the type, size and performance of the bearing. In the comparison method, we should pay attention to the performance parameters of the bearing and not only take into account the appearance of the bearing.
