Dipping and soaking are two popular method of dyeing fabric. One of the most eco-friendly dyeing methods is known as low-impact or “earth friendly” dyeing. It involves soaking the fabric in dye. The process begins with preparing the fabric. The fabric must be pre-washed to remove any dirt, oil, or sizing. It should be carefully rinsed and any remaining detergent should be removed.

After the fabric is prepared, its time to pre-soak the fabric and dye bath solution. This solution could be made from natural dyes such as plants, bark and leaves, food scraps, or dyes from chemical sources such as acid and fiber reactive dyes. The perfect temperature for the dye bath is determined by the type of dye used, but its generally around 120/140 degrees Fahrenheit.
