Railway Steel Rails
Railway steel rails connect wheels and axles of railroad trains and cars, enabling them to move over tracks to carry people and heavy material from one place to another. Steel rails, also called track or railroading, have been an integral part of the railway system for over 150 years and are still used in almost all parts of the world, thanks to their durability and effectiveness.
Railway steel rails are typically formed of either rolled, pressed or forged steel. The type of material used and the construction of the rails depend on the application they are intended for. Railway steel rails can be classified into two types: solid and jointed. Solid railway steel rails are strong and durable enough to withstand years of heavy use and high loads. Jointed railway steel rails are lighter in weight and can be installed more quickly and easily, but are more prone to breakage over time.
Railway steel rails are produced in accordance with several standards. In China, GB/T2585, GB/T181-183 and YB(T)68 are the most commonly used standards for the manufacture of railway steel rails. These standards cover the construction, dimensions, and technical requirements applicable to the railway steel rails.
GB/T2585 covers the design requirements and parameters for railway steel rails. It includes the type of steel and the construction of railway steel rails. The minimum and maximum lengths of railway steel rails are also specified in this standard.
GB/T181-183 covers the dimensions of railway steel rails. This standard defines the dimensions of the head, foot and body of railway steel rails. It also prescribes the gauge, the width and depth of wheel groove, and the head-foot distance for different types of railway steel rails.
YB(T)68 is an important standard for gauging and mass control of railway steel rails. This standard lays down the procedures for measuring, gauging, classifying and controlling the quality of railway steel rails. It also prescribes the inspection methods and acceptance criteria for the different grades of railway steel rails.
Railway steel rails are subject to rigorous tests and inspections during the manufacturing process. During the final inspection, all technical requirements and performance criteria as outlined in the relevant standards are checked. Once the railway steel rails pass the inspections, they are sent to their destination and installed on the tracks.
Railway steel rails are engineered to meet the highest standards of performance and safety. They are extremely strong and durable and can support the heaviest loads. Railway steel rails are also flexible, easy to install and maintain, and are resistant to corrosion and extreme weather conditions. Thanks to their excellent properties, railway steel rails are the backbone of the railway transportation system and play an essential role in keeping people and goods moving.
