Requirements for Self-Backing Coke Blocks Used in Electric ARC Furnace
Self-backing coke blocks are a type of artificial coking product used in electric arc furnace. They are large blocks of coke baked from coke fines and small coke lumps. Self-backing coke blocks provide a reliable material for the quick and effective melting of steel. The quality of the self-backing coke blocks is related to the quality of the steel produced in the electric arc furnace. To ensure high quality production, the following requirements must be met for self-backing coke blocks used in electric arc furnace:
1. Coke block size: Generally the self-baking coke blocks should have a length of 600mm-850mm; width of 400-700mm; height of 300-500mm.
2. Coke block strength: Self-baking coke blocks should not be too fragile with a compressive strength of not less than 160MPa.
3. Porosity: A self-baking coke block should have a porosity of not more than 15%.
4. Coke block surface: The surface of the self-baking coke block should be even without sharp edges and corners.
5. Fines content: The fines content of self-bake coke blocks should not exceed 10%.
6. Coke block density: The self-bake coke block density should be not less than 1.05 g/cm³.
7. Coke block reactivity: The self-bake coke block should have a low reactivity.
8. Adsorption: The self-baking coke block should have a low adsorption rate of not more than 0.2%.
9. Chemical compositions: The chemical composition of the self-baking coke block should consist of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and trace elements.
10. Inclusion: The self-baking coke block should not contain any major inclusions.
11. Metallization: The maximum metallization of the self-baking coke block should not be more than 0.3%.
12. Ash content: The ash content of the self-baking coke block should be not more than 8%.
With a strict adherence to these requirements, the self-baking coke blocks used in the electric arc furnace will be of good quality, helping to produce a high-yield of steel in a safe, efficient and cost-effective way.
