Mechanical Properties of S35550 1Cr18Mn10Ni5Mo3N Austenitic Stainless Steel

As one of the most widely used stainless steel materials, S35550 1Cr18Mn10Ni5Mo3N austenitic stainless steel exhibits excellent mechanical properties, such as yield strength, tensile strength and resistance to wear. This popular grade of stainless steel can be used in applications that require properties such as high corrosion resistance, excellent weldability and good formability. The material is also suitable for high-temperature applications up to 800°C. These mechanical properties make it well suited for use in kitchenware, sinks, heat exchangers and piping.

S35550 1Cr18Mn10Ni5Mo3N has good strength, particularly at elevated temperatures, up to about 600°C. At 20°C, the material has a yield strength of around 650MPa and a tensile strength of 790MPa. The material also demonstrates good ductility with a percentage elongation of 40%. This means that it can deform significantly under stretching or bending without fracturing.

The material has excellent wear resistance. Wear experiments have shown that S35550 1Cr18Mn10Ni5Mo3N has a wear rate of approximately 2.8 x 10-3 cm3/Nm at 800°C, which is significantly lower than most stainless steel alloys of comparable strength. This wear rate is more than two times lower than that of 316 stainless steel, which has a rate of about 6.3 x 10-3 cm3/Nm.

S35550 1Cr18Mn10Ni5Mo3N is highly resistant to corrosion under a variety of oxidizing atmospheres. At ambient temperature, exposure to chlorine in water or contaminated solutions shows only slight signs of general corrosion. The material is also moderately resistant to stress corrosion cracking, with no cracking observed in a wide variety of aqueous solutions, including in hydrochloric acid, ammonium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid plus hydrogen sulfide, and sodium chloride solutions.

The material has good formability, allowing it to be easily formed into complex shapes without the use of heavy machinery. The material is also highly weldable, allowing it to be easily fused with other metals without suffering from cracking or corrosion.

S35550 1Cr18Mn10Ni5Mo3N is a versatile material that can be used in a wide variety of applications. As such, it is important to understand the mechanical properties of this alloy before use. The material shows good strength and wear resistance at elevated temperatures, and excellent ductility and corrosion resistance. It is also highly weldable and has good formability. With its combination of mechanical properties, S35550 1Cr18Mn10Ni5Mo3N is suitable for use in many applications, from kitchenware to heat exchangers.
